Hello families, It is hard to believe that January is almost at an end! This week in social studies we continued discussing clean water as well as our wants and needs. Students first brainstormed things that "I can't imagine life without". We then discussed human needs referring to Maslow's Hierarchy. It was fascinating to hear students making connections to physical and psychological needs!

Hello families, In Writing Workshop this week we published our writing of "How to Build a Snowman". Students did a great job at including detail in their steps so their readers did not need to make any assumptions. Hopefully we will get a chance to put our writing to the test next snowfall! In Science we continued exploring liquids. We first reviewed the states of matter, focusing in on liquids, and most importantly, water.  We learned about the importance of clean water and how water is accessed around the world. Welcome back families, This week we started off by reviewing safety expectations with masking and sanitizing. Students have been doing an excellent job at masking when moving around our classroom and our school as well as washing their hands or sanitizing when necessary. For art we created some Winter tree peices using brushes and sponges. This art allowed us to practice fine motor skills and required many steps with time in between each layer.

Hello families, Here we are at the end of the year 2021 already! Wow has the time flied! Our last week before seeing each other again in 2022 was a great one.  In writing we watched the cartoon music video of " You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch". We then put our songwriting hats on and wrote our own lyrics to follow the song. Practicing "backwards similes", students had a great time playing with words to communicate the opposite. An example is "You're as soft as a rock, and as kind as a grizzly bear". To accompany our Grinch lyrics, we created some Grinch tree art.

Hello families, Miss. Brown has created a video introducing herself and her new role within LBS.  I hope your child is excited and has been sharing with you the amazing things happening during their time with her! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3d-OlQuu0w Literacy intervention has been going well and I am really enjoying spending time with students 1:1 and in small groups. We have intervention/gym time with Miss. Brown on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings so please ensure your child is dressed for cold weather.  Take care, Miss. Greenhall
