Hello families, This week we began by completing our tissue paper pumpkin art! They turned out beautiful.   For opening task some students finished up with their printing books while others did their word work tic-tac-toes! We also started the Words Their Way literacy program which will be incorporated into opening task next week.

Hello families, This week we applied our learning of the human ear to animal ears, specifically animals found in Alberta. We reviewed the human ear anatomy and learned about each animal.  Students then cut and matched the vocabulary to the appropriate label, and at the end we matched each animal ear to their animal!

Hello families, I hope you had a wonderful long weekend and had the chance to spend time with your loves ones.  This week we jumped into representing numbers, specifically expanded form. We created a sketchbook page outlining the many different ways we can represent numbers.  I have some of these sheets laminated for repeated use. Please let me know if you would like one for your child to practice at home.

Hello room 5 families, This week we focused on carrying using base ten blocks and representing larger numbers in the hundreds and thousands. In addition  students gathered data for a pictograph, representing their data using a symbol and a key. For example, one apple = 2 votes.  We used pizza data and discussed how skip counting can help us determine how many pizza symbols are needed to be recorded for each category.

Hello families, This week, students have been slowly finishing up their tree collage artwork for their sketchbook covers. I am so pleased with their attention to detail!  In math we delved into pictographs by independently using data to create a bar graph with all its important components. We also introduced the concept of carrying with base ten blocks. Students practiced exchanging 10 unit-beads for 1 golden bead bar, and 10 golden bead bars for 1 hundred square. We will continue to practice this concept into next week.
