Hello families,   This year students did a wonderful job at practicing perseverance, and stamina during the Terry Fox run. We learned about Terry Fox and discussed the importance of always trying our best and how diversity is beautiful.  To show our appreciation we created some Terry Fox posters.

Hello families, This week we jumped right in to our first writing workshop! The workshop consists of 4-6 days, each day moving on to the next step in the writing process when appropriate. The steps incude: 1: Plan 2: Share 3:Draft 4:Revise 5: Next Steps We began by looking at "The Best Part of Me" as our mentor text, reflecting on what the author did really well and how they engaged their readers. After reading the book students received a graphic organizer (modified for their specific writing level) and we began to plan. Some graphic organizers contained sentence frames or prompts, while others were a blank slate! We discussed the term "stamina" and how throughout the year we will be working on our writing stamina, just like people train their stamina in sports and other actives. Hello room 5 families, This week we explored graphing as well as place value. Students spent some time practicing with math materials such as the bead frames, base ten blocks, coloured bead bars, and their corresponding stamps. We will be continuing to practice these concepts over the next week or two. We also learned a new game called "Biggest Number" which practices place value.

Hello families, What an exciting first week of school! Today we continued to practice our new routines, becoming familiar with our new books and materials in the classroom. In writing, students responded to a writing prompt about their room, and in math we collected information about our class birthdays and represented our data in a bar graph together. We also created some hand cacti art! It was so much fun painting our hands and discussing some of the features and adaptations of a cactus.

Hello room 5 families, It was a pleasure getting to know your children today! We spent the morning practicing "opening task" which is done every morning and consists of a math and literacy task.  We played a dice game to get to know each other and also enjoyed snack and gym outside. For math we worked on a "math about me" page and for writing we wrote about ourselves, including things such as our family, what we love to do, pets etc.  We also started the routine of "Daily LA" where students will be placed in groups and practice their literacy skills through different tasks. Today we just practiced reading to self and read with a partner.  I am so happy to say students adjusted to their classroom routines very well! Some examples include ensuring they are wearing their masks when out of their chairs, and practicing washing and sanitizing their hands.  I will be trying my best to update my blog on a weekly basis so please stayed tuned for updates :). Thank
