Welcome back families,

This week we started off by reviewing safety expectations with masking and sanitizing. Students have been doing an excellent job at masking when moving around our classroom and our school as well as washing their hands or sanitizing when necessary.

For art we created some Winter tree peices using brushes and sponges. This art allowed us to practice fine motor skills and required many steps with time in between each layer.

We began this week we did lots of review! We reviewed the mathematical processes of carrying and borrowing and filled out a January calendar. In writing students wrote about their break and practiced implementing the stages of planning, drafting, and revising.

We then moved into reviewing some math games and the concept of time. To practice time, students took part in a monster scavenger hunt, recording the time of each monster they found!

In writing we practiced editing and revising Miss. Greenhall's writing as well as some other writing at each student's  "just right" level.

We also carried on the introduction of procedural writing from December by drafting instructions to make the "perfect snowman". As a class we discussed the importance of including lots of detail and transition words into our writing to help our readers understand our instructions.

Since the weather has finally given us a break we also got outside and snowshoed!

Students were so excited to finally meet out classroom critters: isopods and earthworms. We discussed their needs, anatomy, habitat, and proper care. Being decomposers, they like dark and wet places to live, making their environment a little stinky! Isopod observation is now an option for responsible work choice.

Continuing with mapping, we began filling out a map of Canada. Referring to the "Canada Crew" website: https://www.tvokids.com/preschool/canada-crew we have been learning about each province and labeling them on our map. Students made sure to refer to their atlas for proper spelling and location. We will continue this into next week.

Also, check out some of the STEM materials that were added to our class!

Have a great weekend,

Miss. Greenhall
