Hello families, It is hard to believe that January is almost at an end! This week in social studies we continued discussing clean water as well as our wants and needs. Students first brainstormed things that "I can't imagine life without". We then discussed human needs referring to Maslow's Hierarchy. It was fascinating to hear students making connections to physical and psychological needs!

Hello families, In Writing Workshop this week we published our writing of "How to Build a Snowman". Students did a great job at including detail in their steps so their readers did not need to make any assumptions. Hopefully we will get a chance to put our writing to the test next snowfall! In Science we continued exploring liquids. We first reviewed the states of matter, focusing in on liquids, and most importantly, water.  We learned about the importance of clean water and how water is accessed around the world. Students then brainstormed some ways that humans use water. We then looks at the different processes of water through scientific vocabulary, using visuals and labeling to depict examples. As a class we put on our scientist hats and conducted a science experiment called the "Liquids Race", making estimates on which liquids would be the fastest or slowest. Welcome back families, This week we started off by reviewing safety expectations with masking and sanitizing. Students have been doing an excellent job at masking when moving around our classroom and our school as well as washing their hands or sanitizing when necessary. For art we created some Winter tree peices using brushes and sponges. This art allowed us to practice fine motor skills and required many steps with time in between each layer.
