Hello families, This week we jumped into Autumn with a focus on Science and Social Studies. We learned about the word ethnobotany, and how plants are used  for so many things in our world! One of the ways plants are used is for dyes and pigments. We put this to the test by trying out some rubbings from Ms. Greenhall's garden!

Hello  families , We began our week r eading the book "Me and My Sit Spot" and then going outside to take part in our first sit spot of the year in the garden. Everyone did amazing! I am impressed with room 8's stamina and mindfulness while sketching.

Hello families, This week in math we continued our exploration of patterns.  Through S. T. E. M. time and targeted math practice in their books, students demonstrated their understanding of pattern rules and attributes such as color, size,and position. We then took our learning outside for our walking field trip with Ms. Green's class. Here students applied their mathematical understanding to create patterns in nature as well as nature mandalas.

Hello families, This week we bounced back into our classroom routines and began learning more about  each other to build our classroom community. We also began reviewing concepts and learning about some new ones!    Students used mirrors and referred to a photo of themselves to draw a self portrait.    In literacy we reviewed the letters A and M. For Daily L. A. we began practicing buddy reading and reading to self.    In math we explored patterns with different attributes and incorporated a pattern or two into our September calendars.    We also played addition and greater than math games with cards. Math games are a great way to help students practice their fact fluency in a fun way. Ask you child about the games they have learned so far!  On Friday we joined with Mrs. Green's class to read the book "The Medicine Wheel", and began to learn about the Four Scared Medicines. Hello room 8 families, Welcome to my blog! Our couple days back at school were a lot of fun. It was nice to see familiar and new faces in the room. I was so impressed with the leadership I saw from the grade 2s and amazing listening skills and willingness from the grade 1s. It is going to be a great year!
