Sept 21st 2023

Hello families,

We began our week reading the book "Me and My Sit Spot" and then going outside to take part in our first sit spot of the year in the garden. Everyone did amazing! I am impressed with room 8's stamina and mindfulness while sketching.

Our class completed our Grace and Courtesy documentation wall in our room. This includes the many books we have read, brainstorming on how to show care to ourselves, each other, and our place, as well as our class agreement.

Our school nurse visited the grade 1/2 classes to do a presentation called "Glow Germs" to promote proper hand hygiene.

In math this week we spent some time going over the Montessori math materials on the shelves and practicing/reviewing how to use them.  Students also completed their pattern art which is on display in our classroom. As we begin to move into number patterns and representation, students demonstrated their understanding of counting within a 20s or 100s chart depending on their "just right level".

We had our LBS Terry Fox Run on Tuesday. Our class ran 94 laps in total, wow!

On Wednesday we went on a walking field trip with room 11. The rain held out just in time! We talked about respecting the land and showed Ms, Midgley's class how to participate in a smudge circle. Using actions such as drawing the smoke over our head, eyes, ears, mouth and heart set the intention of kind thoughts, kind actions, hear and speak kind words, and spread/feel love. Students are always given the option to take part anytime we meet in circle.

Check out the responsible work choices students made this week!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Ms. Greenhall

Please note that when in a topic you may need to switch between "grade 1" and "grade 2" to reflect your child's needs. Happy learning!
