Hello families,  This week we created final copies of our Norval Morrisseau inspired art.  Norval Morrisseau, also known as Copper Thunderbird, was an Indigenous Canadian artist from the Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek First Nation. He is widely regarded as the grandfather of contemporary Indigenous art in Canada. We learned about oral storytelling and as we practiced our art we listened to three different legends: Turtle Island, Thunderbird, and Salmon Boy.  Students chose one of these animals for their guided drawing. In this art we focused on including bright colors and bold lines using sharpie and alcohol markers.

Hello families, We had a short and productive week! We completed our place value math art. Students were asked to review their art before going over in marker to ensure that it matched their number and representation .

Hello families,  This week we spent time preparing for our Remembrance Day assembly. For our art we analyzed a variety of Remembrance Day poetry and added meaningful words from the stanzas to their matching silhouettes. Students did a wonderful job on their art, singing, speaking and demonstrating to the school how to show respect on such an important day. We are so proud of how our students and school have come together to honour and support our veterans.

Hello families, What a busy and fun filled week! We completed our pumpkin comparison sketches just in time for Halloween. On Halloween we tasted and graphed our pumpkin seeds, students drew and wrote about their halloween costumes, we carved our pumpkin, and created spooky place value numbers. The Halloween parade and grade 1/2 dance party were also a blast!
