Hello families,

I hope you had a good spring break! Here is what we got up to this week: 

Maps of Canada are now all labeled and coloured. In Science and Social Studies we have begun our inquiry of Canadian natural landforms, types of water, transportation, resources, and ways of life.

We day dreamed of less snowy days and started to create watercolour spring flower art. We used the wet-on-wet technique to make the colours "bleed" together.


Spring Break reflection using loose parts to build, share and plan our writing.



Spring Favourites




In word work we explored ending spelling patterns using the UFLI mats and completed the corresponding Words Their Way sorts.

 


Drop Everything and Read! A class favourite.




On Thursday we had a visit from author Melissa Allan who read her book, Brave Like the Buffalo. Since April is poetry month, we launched into it by creating acrostic poems inspired by the story.

In mathematics, we explored how to represent addition with the Montessori Golden Beads. 

 

 Students also built on their prior understanding of the coloured bead bars to play the Montessori Addition Snake Game, helping them visualize number combinations and strengthen their mental math skills.

Our class's collaborative art piece for the MAPPS Peace night fundraiser is done and it looks great! Stay tuned for more information about the night.

Save the Date! Spring Event
LBS Springs Together will take place on May 7 from 6:30-8:00 pm.  There will be activities for families to do together throughout the school.  Each class will be doing a musical performance on the stage as part of the event.  Stay tuned to School Messenger as information about what time your child performs will be shared soon Please reach out to Mrs. Kawchuk with any questions.
