Hello families,

It was a busy week preparing for conferences and wrapping up some learning before the break! Here is what we got up to:

We had our last two walking field trips with YellowSteps. After reviewing the photos students took, we discussed whether the structures we observed were helpful or harmful to humans and animals in the community. We then explored diamante poems, and each student created their own to describe a chosen image using nouns, adjectives, and verbs.

In word work we explored decoding levelled texts and highlighting the spelling pattern: CVCe. Students then drew a picture to match the text to demonstrate their comprehension skills.

We also got a letter response back from the Calgary Zoo! They gifted our class some wolf trading cards and answered the questions we asked in our letters a few weeks back.

Words of the Week

Compass Points Sit Spot - Ask your child, what is the slogan to remember the four directions? (Never Eat Soggy Waffles!)

In Social Studies we began by zooming out from Calgary, Alberta, all the way to North America (also known as Turtle Island in our class), and then zooming back in to focus on Canada. We learned that Canada is made up of 10 provinces and 3 territories, with the territories located in the north.

In mathematics we learned how to add and subtract using tallies and the Montessori coloured bead bars.
