Hello families,
This week we started some new projects! Here is what we got up to:
In art and science, students explored how animals survive during the winter in both natural environments and urban settings. They learned and used scientific vocabulary such as adaptation, migration, and hibernation. Students also explored ways people help keep animals safe, including building wildlife bridges and crossings, using garbage cans properly, and not feeding animals.
Inspired by Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner, students created their own artwork to represent animals and the hidden world that exists beneath the snow during winter.
In literacy we completed the last step of our The Mitten writer's workshop by drafting our final copies. They look fantastic!
Words Their Way sorts with digraphs.
Daily L.A. Stations
In math we completed a place value scavenger hunt project where students searched for digits in a certain place value.
We also completed a place value classroom search!
Math Groups
In Social Studies we learned about the Sacred Teaching honesty, represented by the Sabe. Students used loose parts to create a time they were honest and wrote a short blurb about it.

Tea Time Tuesday
By this upcoming Tuesday February 3rd, students are invited to bring a non-breakable, labeled mug to keep at school (these will be returned at the end of the year). Students will be responsible for cleaning and caring for their mug for the remainder of the year and I will store them. Tea time will take place the first Tuesday of each month, once a month.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Ms. Greenhall
