Hello families,
This week we delved into representing stories, ideas and numbers in a variety of ways. Here is what we got up to:
Loose parts about what we like to do in the snow! Students created, shared, and recorded their ideas.
Letters x, q, v and z! We are now done our alphabet review. Students began learning about digraphs in their "read with teacher" Daily L.A. station.
Representing numbers through Montessori Materials, ten frames and tallies.
In Social Studies we wrapped up our community page. Students represented their school, family, and neighbourhood communities.
Grade 1 Outcome: Students will explore personal and community identity and understand how contributing to their family, school, and local community supports well‑being and belonging.
Grade 2 Outcome: Students will build personal and community identity by understanding connections, contributions, and diversity within their communities.
With Room 12, we began exploring the Medicine Wheel and the Four Sacred Medicines in greater depth. We started with the black section, associated with the West and the sacred medicine sage. This section represents the body, and students are learning how to care for their bodies and develop self-control in their actions.
In Science, we applied our understanding of light energy through a shadow puppet project inspired by the book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. Students first created a blueprint of their shadow puppet, then made a practice puppet, and finally produced their final version using a combination of opaque, translucent, and transparent materials. We will be retelling the story with them next week!
