Hello families,

We had an amazing last week of school. Here is what we got up to:

In math/art we created snowflakes using the coloured bead bars. Students then recording the value of their snowflake and graphed it. Those who were ready for a challenge calculated the value of their snowflakes too.

Free Writing and Christmas Wish lists.

In Science, students were tasked with designing a toy for a child, inspired by the book Kid Christmas: Of The Claus Brothers Toy Store by David Litchfield. Students engaged in hands-on, independent work, applying the design thinking model to brainstorm, plan, create, and refine their toy ideas.  Each toy needed to slide, roll, or rock, encouraging creativity, and problem-solving.

Three furry friends from the North Pole joined our class! We welcomed Kiááyo (Bear), Iinííwa (Bison), and Makoyii (Wolf). In the new year, we will be learning their Blackfoot names as they help teach us about the Seven Sacred Teachings in the new year.

In literacy, we began learning about parts of speech using the Montessori grammar symbols. Students are learning to identify and use nouns, adjectives, and verbs in Grade 1/2. This work supports sentence building, reading comprehension, and writing skills.

Final cards for our community project as well as some individualized cards for our big buddies! We took part in a card exchange on Thursday.
