Hello families,

This week in Social Studies we learned about Remembrance Day and explored the poppy as a symbol of peace. Students created beautiful wet-on-wet watercolour poppy art and used their five senses to describe the poppy and reflect on its meaning.

In Science we explored the changing season with "Fall Favorites" and completed our pumpkin life cycle sketches.

In mathematics we completed a patterns assessment and began learning about number patterns within a 100s or 1000s chart.

Math games with room 12.

In literacy we continued with our UFLI alphabet review. We focused on O, D, and C. In Daily L.A. students were introduced to the "word work" and "read with teacher" stations.

Students also received word work books with a spelling tic-tac-toe based on their grade level.

Grade 1/2 Spelling Program

Students brought home Alberta Education’s list of high-frequency words for Grades 1 and 2 on Wednesday. We’ll practice these words daily during word work time, and “spicy” challenge words will be added for those ready for more.

Weekly word lists will be posted on my blog for home practice. Spelling check-ins will happen each Friday, and be sent home so you can track your child’s progress. Here are the words for next week:
