Hello families,

This week we had two very important events: the Terry Fox Run and Orange Shirt Day. Here is what we got up to:

Indigenous Education

We began exploring the Social Studies theme of connectedness through the introduction of the Medicine Wheel and smudging. Students learned about the meaning of smudging and how it can be practiced. This will be offered as an opportunity for reflection and intention-setting. Participation is always optional, and students are welcome to pass if they choose.

We learned about Terry Fox and the Marathon of Hope. During Thursday’s run, students showed wonderful stamina and perseverance! We also explored the idea of fixed vs. growth mindsets, connecting Terry’s determination to the power of perseverance and positive thinking.

In literacy, we focused on the letters T and P. Ask your child to show you the Animated Literacy actions they know so far for the letters we’ve covered!

Daily L.A.  - Students were introduced to two new stations: literacy games and Montessori literacy materials.

More completed Gratitude Jars from last week!

Mathematics: Patterns, Cycles, and Seasons

Fact Fluency: Odds and Evens shaker game with Ms. Adamson's class. Ask your child: What makes a number even or odd?

Orange Shirt Day – LBS came together for a whole-school assembly, followed by a shared sit spot. Afterwards, our class reflected on positive affirmations and discussed how every child deserves to feel loved, welcomed, and celebrated for their differences.

Reads of the Week

Thank you to those who sent in soap donations for our class. We sure have had clean hands this week!

Library Books
The library is now open, and students can sign out up to 2 books at a time. Books can be kept at school in students’ cubbies or taken home with care. Ms. Smith, our librarian, reminded students that it’s best to keep library books in their backpacks when not reading them at home to avoid losing them. Any books not returned by the end of the year will need to be paid for.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Ms. Greenhall
