Hello families,

This week we got a new classmate! We decided to name him Brightbill from The Wild Robot. What a magical experience for students.  We "adopted" Dewy the duck from another class to keep him company. We will have the goose and duck until next week if you want to send in some veggie scraps!

Tea time Tuesday!

On Music Monday LBS had visitors from the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra who taught us about the brass family and played songs on the french horn! Later in the day we came together for some singing.

We also watched the "Evolution of Music" from the 70s to 2000s.

On Wednesday, we had some very special visitors: author Lisa Bowes and two players from Cavalry FC, one of Calgary’s professional soccer teams! Each student received a signed book as well as a bookmark with a QR code for discounted game tickets.

In math we learned how to solve addition and subtraction word problems, ensuring we are reading the whole problem first, then underlining important information such a numbers, names, and mathematical vocabulary. Lastly, answering with a sentence.

We also began learning about non-standard measurement including indigenous methods of measurement.

In literacy we read the last Global Read Out Loud book, Built to Last , by Minh Le. Students then reflected and wrote about what makes a good friend in their sketchbooks.

We then began exploring procedural writing by creating our own “how-to” pieces in a writer's workshop. To see the importance of clear, specific instructions, we watched a video that demonstrated how easily things can go wrong without them.

In social studies we "flew" to Meteghan, Nova Scotia and set up our sketchbook pages.

Hats on for Mental Health!

In gym we learned how to play capture the flag.

Spring has sprung in our garden and gardening club is starting on Thursdays for all students who are interested!
