May 23rd, 2025

Hello families,

I hope you all had a wonderful May long weekend. We had an extraordinary time with Elder Shirley and learned so much from her. Students were very respectful and had a blast learning how to hoop dance!

We continued reading The Wild Robot and learned some important information: Roz is not the only robot that was made. There is a factory that makes the robots and codes them to perform different human tasks. We then put on our "coding hats" alearned how to code the Ozobot robots using colour recognition. The kids are having a blast to say the least. Did you know that coding is part of the new Alberta curriculum?

We then began designing a sightseeing experience for tourists in one of the three communities we’ve explored in Social Studies (Prairies, Arctic, and East Coast). Using the Ozobots, students are creating tours that highlight the unique features and attractions of their chosen region.

Wild Robot Activities

In art we completed our gosling footprint art using student-created stamps.

In literacy, students drafted, revised, and published their "How to Raise a Gosling" pieces. They’ve now moved on to the final research project of our geese inquiry, creating informative pamphlets about geese using their sketchbooks, field journals, procedural writing, and Pebble Go research.

In mathematics/science we continued designing our zoos. Students who were done their blueprint and measurements added accurate habitats for their zoo animals to thrive in.

Students also completed their number math assessments which will contribute to their mathematics report card grade. We further practiced fact fluency using the "doubles plus 1" strategy and a Kahoot.

At the beginning of the week, I shared an update with the class about Dewy and Brightbill. They are happy and well-settled on their farms, surrounded by new friends and caring duck and goose moms! I hope this brought some peace of mind to students who were feeling sad about their departure (myself included!).

Kickball fun!

Gardening club started ! Students are invited to bring their own gloves and trowel from home to use if they wish for Thursdays.
