Hello families,

This week we learned about and made Pysanky eggs using a marbling effect with shaving cream (thank you for all the donations!) We added designs using string and glue to symbolize signs of spring.

On Thursday the grade 1/2 students went on a Easter egg hunt around the school field.

We began reading The Wild Robot. Students sketched about the chapters and we answered questions as a class. Ask your child what has happened in the novel so far!

Wild Robot S.T.E.A.M. challenges.

In literacy we learned about long vowel teams with o and i through word sorts, writing and decoding.

We also solved compound word picture riddles!

Egg candling this week. The goslings sure are growing!

In Earth systems we explored a few UNESCO world heritage sites in Alberta, including  Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump and Dinosaur Provincial Park. Students explored the Pebble Go website to research different dinosaurs and prehistoric animals. Pebble Go is great for all readers as it has a read-out-loud option. We also explored some real fossils!

In Social Studies we explored landscape, climate, transportation, and daily life in Iqaluit. We completed sensory writing about the area as well.

In mathematics we continued our work with number bonds and fact families. We will be moving on to standard algorithm (stacking) next week!

This week in gym we took part in the long awaited Mission Impossible. The kids had a blast!

We also got outside to learn how to play kickball and practice our skills.
