Hello families,

Our field trip to the Sam Centre was amazing! We learned about the Stampede's history and it's important role in Calgary's community. Here are some photos from the trip!

The next day we reflected on some of our favourite parts of the field trip!

We continued our learning about communities in Social Studies  and created maps of Canada.

In literacy we learned about the ending spelling  patterns ild, -old,  -ind, -olt, -ost. Students read and highlighted a decodable text at their just right level, then drew a picture about the text.

We also read the next Global Read-Out-Loud book: Lift by Minh Le. Inspired by the book, students visualized their own imaginary place and wrote about it using adjectives and their 5 senses.

Students are doing a great job at practicing their spelling words. We continue to make our way through the grade 1 and 2 sight words laid out by Alberta Education. Here they are again for your reference!

We started a gratitude jar in our classroom. The kids have loved recording things they are grateful for as a daily responsible work choice.

In S.E.L. students brainstormed ways they can show acts of kindness.

In math we learned how to use the Montessori stamp game to subtract and filled out a March calendar using a AABCCD pattern. We also began a math check-in. Students demonstrated their understanding so far of representing addition and subtraction, as well as their fact fluency skills within 20.

In Gym we wrapped up our badminton unit with some partner rallying.

In Science we visited the aquarium and learned about the life cycle of a rainbow trout. Ask your child what stage of the lifecycle these little ones are now at!

On Friday Mr. Brett came in and taught the class about conservation and local fishing in Alberta. We looked at a variety of artifacts and even got to touch some fishing equipment!

The office is responsible for recording student excused absences as teachers are not able to do so. It is greatly appreciated if you Cc' their teacher in your email as well so they are kept in the loop!
