Hello families,

This week in math, we wrapped up an exciting project—the Grocery Store Shopping Spree! Students put their math skills to the test by selecting items while staying within their "just right" budget. This activity also tied into our financial literacy curriculum, helping students understand the value of money and how to manage it wisely. Additionally, we connected the project to our wellness curriculum by exploring whole and processed foods, challenging students to include a balance of both in their purchases.

We practiced mixed addition and subtraction with the stamp game to wrap up with this material.

We then learned how to add on a 100s chart by expanding the smaller addend in an addition equation.

Math check-ins were assessed and a copy was sent home earlier this week!

In literacy we began learning about r-controlled vowels through the Words Their Way program.

In Social Studies we started learning about the prairie communities of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

In Science, we kicked off our study of Earth systems! Through our fish inquiry, we explored aspects of Earth's water systems and will continue deepening our understanding of the other elements that shape our incredible planet.

In light of the recent eclipse, we learned what a lunar eclipse is and heard from an astronaut what it is like to live in space!

We also explored the Indigenous constellation system, gaining insight into traditional knowledge and perspectives of the stars.

In gym, we focused on skipping! We practiced hopping in place, navigated mazes to improve coordination, and even learned how to knot the rope properly for storage. Next week we begin gymnastics!

During our outdoor body breaks, we made the most of the fresh air— it's hard to believe that spring is approaching!

Tea Time Tuesday

On Friday we looked through our extensive lost and found. Hopefully your child was united with an item or two!

Friday was LBS Sleep/Pajama Day! We learned about the importance of sleep, how it benefits our bodies and brains, and explored strategies to improve our sleep!

We had fun creating and sharing funny sleep stories using loose parts, then "live sharing" them with the class!

Lastly, we dove into building forts!
