Hello families,
This week in science we visited the aquarium and observed the creatures inside. They continue to grow really fast! Students reflected on the changes they saw and learned what the purpose of a yolk sac is. We then observed, sketched, and added detail to our sketches using watercolor pencil crayon.
We learned about the Lunar New Year and celebrated the year of the snake by making some multi-media art. They look fantastic!
In literacy we took part in a free write that students added to during the "Work on Writing" Daily L.A. station.
Students wrote about their weekends and learned about the silent E pattern with o_e and e_e. They also sorted words based on these patterns.

In mathematics we applied our understanding of adding/subtracting using the Montessori coloured bead bars to learn the addition and subtraction snake games. The snake game reinforces concepts such as making ten, regrouping, fact families, and checking our math using a control.
Our class also began to read the Global Read Out Loud books. This year the focused author is Mihn Lee and the first book we read is Let me Finish!
In social studies we learned about the Sacred Teachings honesty and wisdom, represented by the sabe and the beaver.
In gym we had our lacrosse residency! On the days we did not have a session we went outside.
