November 15th 2024

    Hello families,

This week was a very short but busy one! We learned about the Mi'kmaq seasonal cycle and what signs of nature they look at to reflect the season!

We also learned about the phases of the moon and that the moon does not emit light, but actually reflects the sun. The main two phases we learned about are a full moon and new moon.

In mathematics Grade 2 students completed their skip counting math mysteries and Grade 1 students completed a tallies/ten frame check-in if they were away. We also began learning about place value!

In literacy we completed the letters V and Z. We are now done the whole alphabet! Ask you child what all the animated literacy action are for all 26 letters. We will be moving into vowels next week.

    Grade 1/2 Spelling Program

This week we started learning grade 1 and 2 high-frequency words. With it being such a short week, we are going to continue these words into next week for extra practice time! Spelling check-ins will happen on Fridays. Grade 1 students will practice and spell the first five words unless they choose to do all 10 as a challenge!

     Studio Bell Field Trip

Thank you for those who were interested in volunteering for our Studio Bell Field Trip. We have reached the limit of volunteers allowed for this trip, but we have several other great trips planned this year! To those who were interested but not able to come this time, I will prioritize you for the next upcoming trip! Thank you for your understanding.

    Literacy Folder Volunteers

I am looking for one or two volunteers to come in and help assemble literacy folders for our class. Please send me and email if you are interested!

Rock Your Mocs is a worldwide Indigenous Peoples movement held annually during Metis Week in Canada. People are encouraged to wear moccasins and Mukluks to celebrate the diverse Indigenous cultures across the globe. Rock your Mocs is about unifying Indigenous Peoples globally, promoting cultural pride, and showcasing the diversity of nations.
LBS staff and students are invited to wear their moccasins on Monday, November 18th if they are able to.
