October 4th, 2024

Hello families,

On Monday we did a whole school sit spot to honor the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Sit spots are a quick and simple activity to encourage land-based learning. There were lots of ladybugs out for students to sketch!

In gym this month we will be continuing to focus on catching/throwing and relay games. We will begin sports in November!

In literacy we reviewed the letters D,C, and U. Ask your child what the Animated Literacy actions are for these!

Daily L.A. Listen to Reading Headphones
One of the stations in Daily L.A. that we are starting is “Listen
to Reading” where students will use Epic or Khan Academy Kids on the iPad. If
you are able to send headphones for your child to keep in their cubby, it would
help us reduce noise and distraction to others during this time. These would be headphones with an auxiliary end. Listen to reading is usually only done 1-2 times per week for 15-20 minutes.

In mathematics we completed an October calendar, collected data to graph based on colored items in our classroom, and played fact fluency math games! Grade 1 students built graphs while Grade 2 students created bar graphs based on their data.

In health and wellness we continue to review school expectations and how to show grace and courtesy to self, others, and our place. We have noticed that are many students in all grades who are putting their hands on others during recess time. As a result our main learning focus this week has been on boundaries, reviewing problem solving strategies, and keeping our hands to ourselves. Grace & Courtesy will also be the focus of our October assembly and hosted by our class and room 12. Parents from these two classes are invited to watch our assembly on Thursday, October 17th. Please check your email for the time.

For our assembly we brainstormed ideas about how to show Grace and Courtesy as a class. Then our big buddies helped us write "important statements".

Volunteers
Thank you to those who have volunteered to assemble student's sketchbook covers! It is greatly appreciated as these covers increase the longevity of the books and make them great keepsakes for the end of the year to take home.
