Hello families,

This week we celebrated Dot Day on Monday and completed some dot pattern art!

In math we focused on DATA. Students built graphs to represent data that was given to them,  collected it by asking questions,  and observed it to gather information. Ask your child what their research question was!

Within fact fluency, we learned the game Make Ten. This can be played with a partner or independently. For those who needed a challenge they "made 15". Try it out at home for extra practice!

In literacy we used the UFLI mats to create words when reviewing the letters p,f, and i. We also talked about how we use lowercase letters for all writing other than special times such as names and the beginning of sentences. Grade 2 students further began including questions into their sentences to add variety.

On Friday we had our Terry Fox assembly. The run has been rescheduled to Monday due to the rain! We have been working on our running stamina during gym time especially for this event. We also created a sketchbook page with a concrete (shape) poem using words that describe Terry Fox.

In Physical Education we have been playing cooperative games to support our listening skills and good sportsmanship.

Scholastic Book Orders
Our monthly Scholastic flyers were sent home on Wednesday! We discussed as a class that it is important to ask if you want something from the flyer, and that families may not be able to order every time. If you are interested in ordering you can use our class code which helps us earn money towards new classroom books! Please have your orders in by the end of every month. If they are late there is a chance that I will have to submit them the following month. Thank you for supporting our classroom library!

Class Code: RC358893

I have also added your child to our online learning accounts. Feel free to use these at home as well!

Our class code is: ypq1713

Khan Academy Kids
Our class is now signed up on the the Khan Academy Kids App. This app has a variety of literacy and math activities to help support skill development. Here is our classroom login information if you would like to practice at home:

Please note that when in a topic you may need to switch between "K", "grade 1" and "grade 2" to reflect your child's needs. Happy learning!
