May 3rd, 2024

Hello families,

We welcomed some cute fluffy friends as the eggs in room 13 hatched! During hatching we observed wet feathers, the egg tooth cracking through the egg and some of the chick's first steps! I loved seeing the pure excitement in student's faces when they got to hold the chicks and name them!

In word work we learned about the word patterns "or/ore/oar" and "ar/are/ air".

We also began a 5 Senses poetry writing workshop. I love all the great adjectives students came up with as we PLANNED, DRAFTED, SHARED, REVISED and began our FINAL COPIES.

In math grade 2 students learned how to regroup with borrowing and grade 1s reviewed number bonds. We then moved into subtraction word problems where students practiced the subtraction strategies that we have learned.

We also filled out our May calendars and the Montessori Addition Snake Game was practiced!

To wrap up our understanding of Earth Systems we started a "create your own planet" project. Students began planning out their planet, taking into consideration temperature, landforms, bodies of water, and inhabitants.

In Social Studies we  continued to learn about the prairies. Students sketch noted their ideas as we looked at books and videos.

Students then applied their knowledge of the prairies into art with Ms. Davies. This week we created plants, people and houses for our final collaborative art piece!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Ms. Greenhall

Sports Day Volunteers Needed!

We are seeking volunteers for our LBS 2024 Sports Day! We are looking for parents who would be comfortable co-leading (with support from a teacher) a sports day activity. This year, sports day is happening on Friday, May 24, 2024 from 9:00am – 12:10pm. If you’re available to join us please email your child's teacher. Please note that a valid police clearance is required to volunteer.

Practical Life

In the month of April, we focused on the Montessori tenet of prepared environment at LBS. A prepared environment can be defined as a meaningfully structured learning space where everything has a purpose and is readily accessible. Here are some simple ways to prepare your home to promote autonomy, exploration, and curiosity. #wearelbs #wearemontessori
