April 12, 2024
Hello families,
We started a new artist study of Vincent van Gogh and are creating art inspired by his famous sunflowers.
In art with Ms. Davies students learned how to wet felt. We are creating a collaborative art piece with Ms. Romanko's class that ties to our Social and Science curriculum.
In mathematics students learned how to subtract on a open number line and using base tens. We also did a subtraction check- in. A quick way to support your child in subtraction is asking them to count backwards by 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, and 25s (if you are in grade 2!).
We completed our April calendar. Students were asked to write down the words to represent each day's number. Knowing how to spell the words is just as important as writing the digits!
In writing we continued implementing the M.I.N.T.S. capitalization rules into our work.
We also learned the spelling patterns "ed", "es", and "ai/ay" and completed the corresponding word sorts.
Thank you for practicing the skills we are working on at school with your child at home. In literacy I am noticing an improvement in student's sight word decoding (reading) and encoding (writing)!

In Science we continued exploring Earth systems. This week we learned about the different bodies of water and how they support life, and our solar system.
In Social Studies students completed their identity puzzle pieces for personality, body, and likes/dislikes.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Ms. Greenhall
