Hello families,

We were blessed with no thunder or lightening for our Tuesday field trip to Fish Creek. Just a lot of rain! Thank you so much for those who volunteered, and all families for ensuring your child was dressed for the weather.

We began the day in circle with a smudge.

Our class then listened to me read the book, "Sometimes I Feel like a River".

After, students were off with their groups to explore and complete some tasks in their field journals. Some of these included a shape and nature scavenger hunt as well as a sketching page!

Groups visited the beautiful interpretive centre, which is filled with many artifacts and rich history.

Students also explored the iiststii'ik (Listen) Garden which holds beautiful art and structures.

Our salad celebration was a hit! Thank you to those who donated vegetables and other supplies for this. We started by harvesting our lettuce, and then Ms. Katrin and myself demonstrated how to wash, cut and prepare the vegetables. Students were excellent listeners, making connections to the needs of plants, gardening, and preparing food.

It was also so nice to see our Montessori learners exploring and practicing their practical life skills!

We completed our "Growing Wild" inquiry wall.

Students received their final feedback for their National Geographic Kids books/posters and they are now all complete! Students will be able to enjoy reading each other's work until they go home early next week.

*We will not be doing a spelling check in next week, but will practice these words during our Daily L.A. stations and opening task.*

On Wednesday it was National Indigenous People's Day. We had an assembly describing the purpose of the day and each CBE school was gifted three beautiful flags representing Treaty 7, Métis Nation, and Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami.

After the assembly, we went outside, to smudge and take part in a sit spot.

We completed our wellness art and they turned our beautiful!

We learned a new gym game called "Burrito Tag". It is so fun!

Gardening club finished on Thursday. Students created rock labels for the plant species, as well as weeded and mulched a little more before the summer!

*If your child will not be here on the last day of school, please email me so I can ensure they take home all their belongings for the summer. Thank you! *

Report Cards

Report cards will be available online on June 28th. Please remember that if your child's mark has remained the same, that does not mean they have not shown progress. The same mark means they have kept up with the increasing demands of grade 1 or 2. If your child has a lower or higher mark in science or social studies, it is likely due to the different topics we have covered. They might have been more interested or understood certain science topics more or less than others. One of the math marks last semester was based on patterns and statistics and the same outcome this time around is more connected to shape and space which may also impact their mark. Please carefully read comments and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I am so proud of the progress students have shown this year and feel very confident that they are ready for grade 2 and 3!
