Hello families,

This week students finished up their Meteghan art. How beautiful are they?!

In math we created fraction names! Students represented their name using fraction strips, a number line, and parts of a whole.

In Science students began conferencing with me to review their books/poster and get some feedback. They then shared their work with at least two peers, receiving more feedback. Lastly some students began going through their success criteria checklist as the final step of their project.

In literacy we began learning about sequencing (ensuring stories are told in order so them to make sense!). We first listened to the Tortoise and the Hare story,  then students sorted pictures in sequence and wrote their version, each sentence corresponding with a picture.

Speaking of tortoises, we were so lucky to have a small visitor in our room on Wednesday and Thursday. Flash the Russian tortoise visited this week from another school! Our class loved learning about tortoises and making connections about his habitat, needs, and physical adaptations. We also had a chance to feel his shell (with clean hands of course) and watch me feed him!

Students then recorded their observations and learning about Flash in their field journals.

We made connections to the wellness curriculum and began some mindfulness art. As a class we discussed how different colors connect to different emotions. Then using the "squeegee" method, students first put drops of paint on the page, and then dragged the squeegee across the page. Thank you Ms. Katrin for helping out with this amazing art! We will be adding our words on the art next week.

Sports day was a hoot! We started the day by creating a team poster, the class created the team name "Room 8 Root Rockstars". My station outside was skipping. We finished the day with a yummy snack from school council and an adult vs grade 6 kickball game!

Here are some responsible work choices students made this week!

Salad Celebration
Hello families,

On Monday, June 19th we will be reaping the benefits of the beautiful lettuce our garden tower has grown and will be having a Salad Celebration during morning snack. If your child would like to participate please pack in their lunch a container to hold a small salad, any precut veggies they may want to add for themselves, salad dressing, and a fork. If you happen to have any extra fruits or veggies to donate for the class this would be greatly appreciated. I will be washing and ensuring all donated vegetables are clean and cut before allowing students to prepare their own salads.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to celebrating our “dirt to plate” snack!
