May 4th, 2023

Hello families,

This week we created some chalk pastel flower art. Students choose a guided drawing video to follow and worked on creating "soft lines" and blending with a paper towel.

In writing students finished up their Crazy Cones Alliteration writing workshop. I love all the creative flavours they came up with. Check them out!

In Social Studies we completed our Iqaluit sketchbook page. Students chose 10 words that best describe their understanding of the community and created a list. We then started to make some art to represent our learning.

On Tuesday morning we fed the Rainbow Trout and observed how much they have grown over the past few weeks. As typical trout, they are now rising above the water while feeding, which made it really exciting to watch!

In Science we updated our plant journals as our bean seeds have begun sprouting! Students measured and sketched the changes. It is interesting to see how each baggie and each variety of seed are sprouting differently.

Students also made predictions about what this weird machine is! Some guesses included a vacuume cleaner, bee hive, and planter!

Turns out it is a hydro tower garden! We began planting seeds for germination before we place them in the tower next week. Students learned about the spongy rock sol that holds the seeds and the vermiculite minerals that go on top!

We have started a new documentation board to record our learning about plants!

In math we filled out our May calendars. I can't believe it's already May!

We also applied our learning of base tens to subtraction.

Within 3D shapes we reviewed and discussed attributes. Students then began drafting their own ''wanted posters''of two 3D shapes of their choice.

On Tuesday we read with our big buddies!

Check out some of the responsible work choices made this week! We also took advantage of the nice weather to play kickball.

Have a great weekend,

Ms. Greenhall
