Hello families,

This week in Science we finished up our animal research and began creating our All About - Books. This will be students final Science project for the year to demonstrate their understanding of animal habitat, diet, adaptations, and lifecycle.

I also introduced the Montessori nomenclature cards. We discussed how to properly use them and how to provide a challenge by not looking at the control card when matching. Nomenclature cards support students in their literacy skills and classification of concepts. We started with insects as this is a familiar topic to students!

We also delved into the wellness curriculum by discussing boundaries, ways to communicate boundaries, and the different relationships in our lives.

In Social Studies we looked at the landscape and transportation in Meteghan, Nova Scotia. Students realized it has many differences and some similarities to Iqaluit!

In math we continued with addition and subtraction word problems. Students refer to our math vocabulary wall to guide their understanding if they are stuck on an "operation word".

We also began learning about fractions!

In literacy we began reader's theatre. Students will get lots of practice time with their group before they perform in front of our class!

As we continue with our Daily L.A. rotations, I am so pleased with how each and every students has grown this year in their reading and writing. "Spelling Practice" is a new station where students practice their spelling words with a peer or two.

Here are a couple of the responsible work choices made this week.
