Hello families,

This week we had a visit from The Honey Merchants on Wednesday. She brought in some amazing artefacts to help us learn about bees!

We extended this learning about insects throughout the week.

For our animal research projects we learned about animal:

  • physical adaptations
  • habitats
  • diet - omnivore, carnivore, herbivore
  • predators and prey
  • life cycles

Students continued to utilize Pebble Go to research and recorded their findings on their research graphic organizer. As a class we discussed taking ideas from Pebble Go and recording them down in our own words, as well and using our own scientific thinking beyond the website.

In math students have demonstrated their understanding of place value (stacking) and we have moved onto subtraction word problems. We refer to our math vocabulary wall to see what vocabulary we should be looking for and underlining in the problem.

In geometry we finished up our 3D shape WANTED posters. I really enjoyed all the different characters students created!

Students were then challenged with the task to create a small structure using 3D shape nets. Some student ideas included a castle, sports complex, nature dome, and candy land! Once done, they measured the height, length and width with a ruler.

In Social Studies we started learning about the Acadian peoples of Meteghan, Nova Scotia. We set up a sketchbook page and watched a tourism video.

We also explored the Canada Crew website, specifically Nova Scotia. It is a great kid-friendly website to explore the different provinces in Canada!

Our netball sessions this week were super fun! We will continue to practice some variations of the sport during indoor gym.
