Hello families,

This week we spent time preparing for student- led conferences as well as continuing with work to share with you! Students took turns visiting the aquarium and making predictions on what trout species they think is in the tank.

We also read a variety of books about ocean life!

After watching a video about what the world would be like without water, we brainstormed as a class our ideas. Students then responded to the the writing prompt "In a world without water"...

We also began drafting letters to Earth, inspired but the book Dear Earth from your Friends in Room 5.

In word work we continued with our grade 1/2 groupings at the end of the day.  Each group is  working on different concept with their teacher, allowing our grade team to meet our students at their individual level.

During word work within our classroom we began learning about parts of speech through the Montessori grammar boxes and symbols. We started with nouns and adjectives. Ask your child what the symbols are for nouns and adjectives! (and why!)

In math we completed a parallel addition task  to the one completed in January to see our learning over the past few months.

We also began a "Shopping Spree" math project! Students are able to choose their just right level of budget ($20, $50, and $100) to spend. Looking at grocery and book flyers, their goal is to try and spend as close to their budget as possible without going over.

In Social Studies we continued with out communities pages. They are looking great!

Here are some responsible work choices students made this week!

Tai-Chi
I am happy to share that we will be hosting a residency next Thursday morning for room 8 and 13. Sifu Greenhall, Ms. Greenhall’s dad will be coming in to teach students about the art and practice of Tai-Chi as well as mindfulness. Sensei Greenhall has over 50 years of experience teaching and learning through martial arts including within the CBE. His focus with students will be introducing yin (calm) and yang (active) movements. We are hoping to have him in more frequently as the weather gets warmer and we are able to take our practice outside. Please ensure your child wears comfortable clothing on Thursday to support their movements. We are looking forward to this experience!

Home Reading Books
A gentle reminder to please send your child's home reading books back to school for exchange. We share these books with all the grade 1/2 students so returning these books for other students to use is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Have a great weekend,

Ms. Greenhall
