Hello families,

This week we learned about changing seasons and the patterns we see as the weather begins to get colder. Students sketch noted some of their "Fall Favourites" in their sketchbooks. We also took part in a sit spot at the end of the week to observe the changes happening in our school yard.

Honouring truth and reconciliation, we learned about the history and purpose of orange shirt day and discussed the word "diversity". Here are some of the books we explored.

On Thursday we attended a powerful and beautiful assembly put on by two of our fellow grade 1/2 classes. Wonderful work! After brainstorming as a class what we think all children should have the right to, students expressed their ideas visually.

In math we continued expanding our knowledge of patterns within numbers. We also learned a new math game using place value charts. Math games are great to do at home if you want some extra math practice with your child! We will be moving into representing numbers over the next few weeks, begining with base ten blocks and place value.

In literacy we reviewed the letters M,P,O and N. Grade 2s continue to practice writing sentences while Grade 1s practice their inventive spelling of words. I was so happy to see that some Grade 1s took a chance at writing sentences as well!

We also completed an "All About Me" page for our sketchbooks. I love seeing each child's interests, talents, and what they want to be when they grow up!

Volunteers Needed

I am looking for some volunteers to come in over the next week or two to help start putting together our sketchbook covers.  Please note that volunteers need to have the annual volunteer form signed and on file as well as a valid police check with the office. If you are not sure if you are cleared to volunteer, please ask the office.

If you are cleared to volunteer and would like to come in please send me an email :)

Birthday Walk

Is your child's birthday coming up? At LBS we like to celebrate with the Montessori Birthday Walk Around the Sun. A Google Slide template has been created on My Google Classroom to share the story of your child. Please carefully review the instructions and let me know if you have any questions. Please make a copy and do not edit the template. When it is complete, please share it with me through email so I can share it with the class on your child's special day!

Absences
If your child is going to be absent, please make sure to contact the office via phone or email. I would also appreciate being cc'd on the email so I am kept in the loop!

Physical Education
This year, we will have indoor gym time every other day. On the days that we do not have time in the gym, we will be going outside for phys ed. Please make sure your child has appropriate shoes for both indoor and outdoor phys ed. At LBS, we love to go outside in all types of weather (unless it's colder than -20) so we will be going outside - rain, snow, or shine!
