Hello families,

This week we enjoyed lots of time outside including practicing for the Terry Fox run,  learning how to stretch our muscles after physical activity, and taking part in a sit spot with our big buddies. Our school garden is filed with amazing things to sketch!

I was away at end of the week but I heard the Terry Fox run and assembly were a blast! It is amazing that every year our LBS community comes together to spread cancer awareness, as well as demonstrate great perseverance!

In literacy we learned about the letters I, S, and T. Ask you child what the Animated Literacy actions are for these letters as well as all the ones we have covered so far!

In math we finished up our pattern art and are moving into number patterns. Students were very excited to share their knowledge of skip counting and different pattern rules!

Extending our knowledge of patterns, we also looked at the 5 different patterns in nature, reflecting on manmade, vs natural lines.

We also discussed personal math strategies through several number talks. Some of the strategies that students brainstormed to solve addition equations include:
  • counting on
  • doubles
  • using materials/manipulatives
  • drawing a picture

Some students also completed their tree collage art for the cover of their sketchbooks.

Lake Bonavista School is proud to be honoring Orange Shirt Day on Thursday, September 29th. We encourage all students to wear orange in support of this important event.

Placemats
During snack time students will be using placemats in their space as part of our Montessori practical-life learning. Our laminated placemats don't hold out very well so we are asking for a placemat from home if possible. Something simple that can fit in your child's lunch kit is perfect - even a tea towel works! The placemat is meant to travel to and from school each day. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Absences
If your child is going to be absent, please make sure to contact the office via phone or email. I would also appreciate being cc'd on the email so I am kept in the loop!

Physical Education
This year, we will have a gym time every other day. On the days that we do not have time in the gym, we will be going outside for phys ed. Please make sure your child has appropriate shoes for both indoor and outdoor phys ed. At LBS, we love to go outside in all types of weather (unless it's colder than -20) so we will be going outside - rain or shine!

Fill Your Freezer Feastival
