 Hello families,

It was a fun and full week! One of the highlights was our walking field trip where we created nature names and completed a nature scavenger hunt with our big buddies.

We also continued reviewing and expanding our phonetic knowledge through Animated Literacy. Ask your child what the actions are for the letters we have learned so far!

As a class we discussed the expectations of Daily Language Arts and took some time to practice the current stations.  These include read to self, read with a partner, and literacy games.

In math students began to practice their number sense through our daily  "Opening Task" and utilizing the Montessori materials. We also continued to explore patterns through shapes and colours. To demonstrate their understanding, students began drafting a rough copy of their own patterns, referring to a success criteria checklist to guide their assignment.

On Thursday we celebrated Dot day! All the grade 1/2 classes created Kandinsky inspired circle art using oil pastels.

Take a look at some of the responsible work choices students made this week!

Placemats
During snack time students will be using placemats in their space as part of our Montessori practical-life learning. Our laminated placemats don't hold out very well so we are asking for a placemat from home if possible. Something simple that can fit in your child's lunch kit is perfect - even a tea towel works! The placemat is meant to travel to and from school each day. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Absences
If your child is going to be absent, please make sure to contact the office via phone or email. I would also appreciate being cc'd on the email so I am kept in the loop!

Physical Education
This year, we will have a gym time every other day. On the days that we do not have time in the gym, we will be going outside for phys ed. Please make sure your child has appropriate shoes for both indoor and outdoor phys ed. At LBS, we love to go outside in all types of weather (unless it's colder than -20) so we will be going outside - rain or shine!

Please make sure to check your child's backpack for a brown envelope! Some paperwork is digital this year and the rest is in the envelope to be returned to me as soon as possible.

Terry Fox Run

Lake Bonavista School is proud to be participating in this year’s Terry Fox School Run. Our run will take place on Wednesday, September 21 at 12:40pm following Room 2’s sharing assembly. Let’s get our fundraising going and show everyone how we can “Try like Terry”! Together, we can all make a difference.  #terryfoxschoolruns #tryliketerry @terryfoxfoundation
