Hello families,

It was another amazing week as the count down to summer begins! We began creating some cubism inspired art, incorporating our study of insects into it.  Throughout this art students are practicing their sketching and line skills, as well as the use of oil pastels.

Our butterflies began hatching and are doing well! What an incredible experience to observe. We have taken part in a few thinking routines to aid our understanding. Painted lady butterflies our native to our area so we are planning to release them on Monday.

We have finished our novel The One and Only Ivan!  This week we discussed the strong message of the book and even listened to an excerpt of the sequel, The One and Only Bob.  Maybe a good summer read for those big readers :)

In writing we continued to explore fiction, focusing on twisted fairytales. We practiced filling out their SWASBUT graphic organizers, changing the setting of the Jack and the Beanstalk tale.

Now that students have had the opportunity to play with the elements of a story, we will now be focusing on creating an original fiction story. This week we focused on character development.

Within math students began planning their own fraction pizzas (of course!). Using their knowledge of fractions, students are creating a pizza with any types of ingredients they like.

In science we also jumped into our final STEM project, the classic egg drop. We will be following the design thinking process. First we defined the problem, and began to ideate this week. Next week we will be building our prototypes, testing, and reflecting. We have lots of building materials in our classroom but if students wish they can bring in a few more to share with the class, or for themself. If a student wishes to bring in materials for only themself they must be labeled with their name. I look forward to seeing all creative designs your children build!

Please look below for important information and upcoming dates.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Miss. Greenhall

Room 4&5 Sharing Assembly
Next Thursday, June 23rd is our room 4 and 5 sharing assembly. This assembly will be in person. Administration has decided to keep this assembly for students and staff only, as a result it will not be open to parents. I will be sure to share out the link of the Peace Train music video that we created for this assembly. As we begin practicing our scripts, it is important that students are at school for this day to present. If you plan to have your child away please send me an email if you have not already.

Camping Day
Room 4 and 5 are planning a camping day for June 21st in the afternoon. If weather permits we will be setting up tents and taking part in some practical and land-based learning to celebrate our year. If you happen to have an easy to assemble tent that is not too large, we would appreciate a couple more!

Early Last Day Of School
If your child's last day of school is going to be prior to Tuesday June 28th, please let me know so I am able to collect and send home their things accordingly.
