 Hello families,

This week we continued with our exploration of Meteghan, Nova Scotia, focussing on the geography, wildlife, and natural resources. After picking out key words to describe these categories, students wrote some beautiful found poetry.

Each student then created an art piece on something you would see in Meteghan using watercolour and string. We arranged them into a beautiful landscape with Miss. Kassam's class for our school to enjoy! Here is the work in progress!

We also created a spring favourites page using our learned sketch-noting techniques.

In math students completed their array addition/multiplication assessments. We documented these assessments in their sketchbook. This allowed them to look at their learning over the last couple months. Students also included at least two of their favourite math strategies to use.

Grade 3 students began learning about division this week, while grade 2 students reviewed number patterns!

We ended the week with an introduction to geometry through a shape search!

In science we wrapped up our unit on Rocks and Minerals. Students referred to the reference text, If You Find a Rock, and created their own writing about a rock or mineral of their choice. We then of course accompanied their writing with some water-colour pencil sketches.

Throughout our novel study of The One and Only Ivan, we have come across a few main characters with lots of personality. We put on our scientist hats and began to look at the natural habitats of the species, and their physical adaptations.

Literacy intervention has now concluded and we are so grateful to have received the extra funding over the last few months! We ended our intervention time by practicing and performing the social skits students have put together with Miss. Brown during health. Miss. Brown will return to room 2 as the classroom teacher.

On Friday we took part in a sit spot in our garden. What a great end to the week!

Thank you to all the parents who have completed their police check and yearly volunteer form. While I wish all parents who are interested in volunteering would be able to attend the upcoming field trip, there is a limit that we can take. Volunteers will be based on a first come basis. I do encourage parents to still complete the volunteer process for future field trips as we always value your support for these opportunities.

Field trip forms will be sent home next week. Please return by April 13th. I will be contacting volunteers next week.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Miss. Greenhall
