Hello families,

We had a short but very busy week! Thank you to our wonderful volunteers for helping make the zoo field trip an amazing experience. For one of their first field trips in years, students did an extraordinary job at listening, showing respect, and of course, having fun! Here are some photos from the trip:

In math we continued our focus in geometry, looking at the attributes of 3D shapes and as well as polygons for the grade 3s. We also continued to apply our mathematical knowledge to WODBs, shape detectives, and a secret number search!

As we do every morning, students practice a variety of math skills  depending on their grade and readiness. These include:

  • carrying
  • borrowing
  • multiplication
  • division
  • patterning
  • telling time
  • number lines
  • algebra
In writing we made some predictions of what species of animals we would see at each area of the zoo. Students needed to justify their predictions using facts they know about the animal.

After the zoo students reflected on their "Zoo Highlights". It was great to see what parts of our trip resonated with students and to have the opportunity to see through their eyes.

We also created a journey map of our trip to the zoo!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Ms. Greenhall
