March 4th 2022

Hello families,

This week we practiced our mathematical strategies such as repeated addition, skip counting, arrays, and pictures to solve equations. To demonstrate their understanding, students created some Mart (Math Art) of arrays. These were inspired by the famous Kandinsky circles.

Many students utilized the coloured bead bars and base ten blocks to support their application of each strategy.

We also filled out a March calendar.

A new Esti-Mystery began this week. During these routines students apply their estimation and elimination skills.

Hello placemats! We introduced Montessori placemats back into the classroom. Students are responsible in ensuring their placemat is clean before putting it away after meals.

Last week grade 3 students began cursive writing practice.

We started another round of Words Their Way. Each day students complete a step. These include: cut, sort, re-sort, glue, and choose 5 of their words to work on this week for Word Work.

In Writing Workshop we began "Sandwhich Writing". Your child will be sharing their draft of this writing with you during student led conferences. Please provide feedback for them to implement during the revision stage.

In math students began the "Grocery Store" project. This will also be shared during conferences and your child will describe their mathematical strategies to solve for each item.

We also continued our novel study as students practice their listening and comprehension skills.

In the library students took part in a STEAM challenge to build a sandcastle. Check them out!

Check out this video Miss.Brown created describing what students have been learning in health and P.E.

Have a wonderful weekend,
