February 4th 2022
Hello families,
Happy first week of February!
This week in science we watched a provocation asking us to imagine life without water. We then responded to this idea by creating our own sketchbook pages.
In social studies we practiced highlighting important information from non-fiction texts and using our notes to answer comprehension questions. We also watched a vlog and a travel video on Iqaluit, Nunavut. Students referred to their maps of Canada, making connections between the location/landforms of Iqaluit and to how the people who live there meet their basic needs. We will be learning more about the Inuit people next week!
In writing we started off with our weekend writing. We mixed things up and wrote using a list instead of in sentences.
We then moved into our next Writing Workshop. Students are working on applying their understanding of procedural writing to create their own "How To" books. This week we planned, shared, and practiced some drawings to go along with the instructions. We will continue the process into next week.
In math we began the week by filling out a February calendar.
We then took part in several number talks including strategies such as making friendly numbers, doubles, and practicing WODB (Which one Doesn't Belong) to practice our mathematical thinking and reasoning.
- Valentine’s Day: in keeping with Covid 19 protocols our school is asking families to not send in treats or Valentines. Our class will be sure to incorporate fun activities into the day that promote kindness and community. Thank you for your understanding.
