Hello families,

This week we began our first math project called the "Shopping Spree Project". After learning about rounding and practicing our skills in a variety of ways, students took to grocery store flyers and were tasked with spending as close to $100 as they could. This project required organization, using subtotals, rounding to the nearest dollar, as well as ensuring one does not go over their budget. Montessori materials such as the base ten blocks, bead bars, bead frames, and stamp game were great in supporting  this task. Next week once students feel like they are done, they will need to cross check their work using a success criteria checklist.

We have reached our final step of our current Writing Workshop - Publish. Students created their "How To" books. Check them out!

As we continue to move through Adventures in Droon, students apply their listening skills to answer comprehension questions about each chapter.

On Wednesday we took part in Pink Shirt Day by spreading kindness, and discussing ways we can show kindness to strangers, friends, adults, and peers. We ended the day with a sharing circle.

While Montessori is very much intertwined into our school and classroom, we have really been embracing some familiar and not so familiar Montessori practices as things begin to ease up.  Some of these include using placemats during snack at lunchtime, greetings at the beginning of the day with peers, and of course, mindfulness. I am hoping we can continue returning to things as times goes on.

Have a great weekend,

Melissa Greenhall
