Hello families,

I hope you are having wonderful week so far. This week we started off with Valentine's Day.  Our day included making a personalized Valentine for the class to sign,  gratitude writing, a pop up card for students to give to someone at home, and color by equations.

On Tuesday we completed a STEM challenge by making paper hearts. Students were tasked with creating the tallest, longest, and most stable structure. They collaborated so well!

In our Writing Workshop we drafted and revised our procedural writing. Students followed the familiar process of having 2 peers review their work using COPS, then the author revising, and lastly filling out a reflection checklist before Miss. Greenhall checks their work.

To develop our editing skills we practiced organizing sentences so they made sense, and included capitals and periods.

In math we finished our first week of Esi-Mysteries, which are estimation challenges. These are a great way for students to develop their mathematical thinking through variety of ways.

We also began to learn about rounding. We will be using our rounding skills in an upcoming math project next week.

Time for our next novel study! The Secrets of Droon,  by Tony Abbot. Students answer comprehension questions for each chapter as they listen/read along as a class. This is a large series, so students who enjoy this book can carry on with the series into the future.

In social studies we delved back into our textbooks wth our Social Studies Buddies and answered some research question about the resources found in Iqaluit.

Have a great long weekend,

Miss. Greenhall
